The Underground Base big collection (26+1 tiles) expands the modular underground environments of the 2670 Squares system, focusing on a fortified, functional installation hidden beneath the surface. Designed for military, corporate, or secret research use, this set supports scenarios involving base defense, internal sabotage, hostile takeovers, or desperate last stands.
Visually, the collection is fully color-matched with Sci-Fi Mines 2 (brown variant), ensuring seamless visual continuity. A dedicated connector tile is included, allowing both sets to be combined into a single, coherent underground complex — whether as a secured base carved into a mine system, or a mine repurposed into a clandestine installation.
The collection can be downloaded at Wargame Vault and DriveThruRPG
Overall Theme
The base is utilitarian, worn, and pragmatic. Reinforced walls, exposed cables, bulkhead doors, and functional lighting dominate the space. While still claustrophobic, the environment feels more controlled and intentional than the raw tunnels of the mines — a place designed to be occupied, defended, and operated over long periods.
Main Entrance & Technical Entrance
Primary and secondary access points to the base. The main entrance is suited for controlled access and checkpoints, while the technical entrance supports logistics, maintenance, or covert entry.
Corridor Modules (I-, L-, T-, and X-Sections)
Standard internal corridors forming the structural backbone of the base. Some variants include gates, allowing areas to be sealed off, locked down, or breached during play.
Command Centre
The nerve center of the base, used for coordination, monitoring, and issuing orders during crises.
Production & Stockpile Rooms
Industrial and logistical spaces for manufacturing, storage, and resource management.
Armoury
A secured weapons storage area — often a prime objective during raids or internal revolts.
Canteen / Social Area
A rare communal space, offering contrast to the otherwise sterile and controlled environment. Useful for roleplay scenes, overheard conversations, or sudden outbreaks of violence.
Laboratory Module
The laboratory is included in two variants:
Intact Laboratory – fully operational, filled with equipment and workstations.
Demolished Laboratory – partially destroyed, suggesting containment failure or violent escape, as if a test subject or specimen broke free.
These two versions allow Overminds to visually tell the story of escalation without changing the layout.
Elevator
Connects different underground levels, acting as a strategic chokepoint.
Old-School Guard Post
A heavily fortified, almost archaic security position — perfect for tense standoffs or last-line defenses.
Compatibility & Use
Thanks to its shared color palette and included connector tile, Underground Base integrates naturally with Sci-Fi Mines 2, enabling:
Hidden military bases beneath active mines
Research facilities carved into abandoned excavation sites
Expansive underground complexes combining raw tunnels and controlled interiors
Together, these sets allow you to build layered, story-rich environments where exploration, tension, and escalation happen organically — one corridor at a time.
