2670 Squares: Sci-Fi Caves

The Sci-Fi Caves collection is the largest 2670 Squares set released so far, containing 44 modular tiles focused on natural underground environments, ancient mysteries, and claustrophobic exploration beneath alien worlds.

Unlike the industrial corridors of Sci-Fi Mines or the reinforced interiors of Underground Base, the tunnels in this collection are intentionally styled as natural cave formations — rough, uneven, and shaped by geological processes rather than human engineering.

At the same time, hidden deeper within the cave network are signs that something else once existed here.

Overall Theme

Sci-Fi Caves is designed for:

  • exploration-heavy adventures,
  • survival horror,
  • archaeological expeditions,
  • underground pursuits,
  • lost civilization stories,
  • and slow, tension-driven encounters in isolated environments.

Dark tunnels. Ancient stone.
And far below the surface — signs that someone was here long before humanity arrived.

Included tiles

I-, T-, and X-Sections

The backbone of the cave system: winding stone tunnels with uneven walls, narrow passages, and poor visibility. These modules are designed to feel organic and unpredictable while still remaining highly modular and easy to assemble during play.

Entrances

Different cave entry points define the atmosphere before explorers even descend underground:

  • standard entrances,
  • ladder descents,
  • and entrances swallowed by complete darkness.
  • Some entrance variants also include subtle alien structural elements.

Large Cavern System

For the first time in the 2670 Squares line, the collection introduces large multi-tile grottoes spanning several connected squares.

These chambers dramatically expand the scale of underground exploration and break the usual corridor-based structure of previous collections.

The grotto system is composed of:

  • Entrance sections
  • Walls
  • Corners
  • Central chamber tiles

Together, they allow Overminds to build massive underground spaces ranging from natural caverns to strange alien halls hidden beneath the planet’s crust.

Variants include:

  • rocky caverns,
  • underground lakes,
  • crystal chambers,
  • and grottoes partially transformed by alien architecture.
  • Alien Civilization Elements

While most tunnels remain naturalistic, several modules introduce unmistakably artificial extraterrestrial structures.

These include:

  • xeno-supported grotto variants,
  • an ancient alien artifact,
  • and a partially buried ancient spacecraft hidden deep underground.

These elements can remain subtle background mysteries — or become the center of an entire campaign.

Special Tiles

Skeleton Chamber

A cavern containing the fossilized skeleton of an enormous unknown creature embedded in stone. Its origin remains unexplained.

Bug Nest

A tunnel section overtaken by hostile biological infestation — eggs, organic growths, and signs that something living still moves deeper below.

Energy Anomaly

A strange unstable phenomenon hidden underground, radiating unnatural light and interference.

Crystal Cavern

A chamber filled with massive crystalline growths that may be natural formations, valuable resources, or something more dangerous.
